Mental Health After-Care
EDM number 852 in 2009-10, proposed by Keith Vaz on 10/02/2010.
Categorised under the topic of Mental health.
That this House notes with concern that an estimated one in six of the adult UK population will have a significant mental health problem at any one time; is further concerned that 10 per cent. of all homicides committed by people with mental health problems were committed by those who had been in contact with mental health services in the previous 12 months; further notes that following the case of Karen Godden who was brutally killed by her neighbour, a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic in 2007, after-care must be made a priority in order adequately to care for the patient and the public; calls on the Government to produce guidelines for ongoing treatment for those diagnosed with a mental illness; and urges the Government to ensure that the most appropriate after-care is provided through regular re-assessments, supervision and visitations.
