National Jobs Summit
EDM number 202 in 2009-10, proposed by Lindsay Hoyle on 24/11/2009.
Categorised under the topics of Employment and Industry.
That this House calls on the Government to hold a national jobs summit involving business, trade unions and other key stakeholders to agree a jobs and growth strategy for the UK; supports the positive action already taken, but considers that further action is still needed; believes that a national jobs summit would bring together the necessary expertise and ideas to address the challenges and grasp the opportunities the UK will face in a post-recession world; and in particular, calls on the Government to focus its efforts to increase support to UK industry, particularly manufacturing, to protect jobs and to provide a greater investment in skills.
