Public Sector Spending

EDM number 1143 in 2009-10, proposed by Nigel Evans on 22/03/2010.
Categorised under the topic of Public expenditure.

That this House notes with concern the National Audit Office report that states that the Government has spent £780 million reorganising its departments and agencies in the four years after the 2005 election; further notes that the report suggests that such spending does not represent value for money and is unsatisfactory; understands that the Institute of Directors has identified £25 billion of savings in the public sector because of a failure to reform outdated procurement and outsourcing practices; believes that it is unacceptable that 1,022 people in town halls now earn more than £100,000 a year and that at least 16 people in local authorities earn more than the Prime Minister; and calls on the Government to reform public sector spending as a matter of urgency by removing wasteful and needless expenditure.

This motion has been signed by a total of 5 MPs.
