Ending Of Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme Medals, Honorary Rank And Uniforms
EDM number 1071 in 2009-10, proposed by Elfyn Llwyd on 10/03/2010.
Categorised under the topics of Armed forces and Parliament.
That this House recognises the advantages and understanding of the work of the armed forces generated by the work of the Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme, but calls for an immediate end to the practice of awarding medals, honorary rank and a uniform to hon. Members as part of this scheme; believes that these awards cheapen the real day-to-day experiences undergone by members of the armed forces; pays tribute to the bravery and heroism of the armed forces in difficult circumstances; and further recognises that these circumstances are often forced upon members of the armed forces as a result of political decisions made by hon. Members.
