1984 To 1985 Miners Strike
EDM number 990 in 2008-09, proposed by Michael Clapham on 04/03/2009.
Categorised under the topics of Coal and Industrial relations.
That this House recalls the Miners Strike of 1984 to 1985 began on 9 March in response to the National Coal Board's decision to butcher the coal industry; believes it was the most important industrial struggle fought by the British Labour Movement since the Second World War and that the National Union of Mineworkers deserves respect for its nobility in fighting against the odds; and believes that it took the election of a Labour Government in 1997 to rebuild broken mining communities.
This motion has been signed by a total of 60 MPs, 4 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
