Single Hygiene Scoring Scheme
EDM number 980 in 2008-09, proposed by Mike Penning on 04/03/2009.
Categorised under the topic of Food.
That this House welcomes the decision by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) to recommend a single hygiene scoring scheme; recognises that such a scheme will play a major role in tackling food-borne illness by helping consumers to make informed decisions about the food premises in which they eat and help drive up hygiene standards in those food premises; further recognises that a single scheme will end the confusion among consumers caused by the number of different schemes currently in use by different local authorities; and calls on all local authorities to recognise the benefits to consumers of having a single national scheme and ensure that they voluntarily adopt the FSA's recommendation of a six-tier five-star scheme with minimal delay.
