Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month
EDM number 967 in 2008-09, proposed by Timothy Farron on 04/03/2009.
Categorised under the topics of Diseases and Health education and preventive medicine.
That this House notes with concern that current awareness of ovarian cancer and its symptoms is low in the UK; recognises that research has demonstrated that of almost all women with the disease, 90 per cent. experience symptoms, even in the early stage of the disease, when survival rates can be as high as 90 per cent.; expresses concern that despite this fact, three out of every four women are only diagnosed with ovarian cancer after it has spread significantly, leading to a dramatic fall in survival rates; commends the work of Ovarian Cancer Action which is dedicated to advancing and supporting ovarian cancer research; and celebrates the beginning of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month as a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness of ovarian cancer research as part of its mission to save women's lives.
