SLIMMING WORLD'S LET'S BEAT OBESITY TOGETHER CAMPAIGN

EDM number 908 in 2008-09, proposed by Tom Levitt on 26/02/2009.
Categorised under the topic of Obesity.

That this House supports the Let's Beat Obesity Together campaign launched in February 2009 by the weight loss organisation Slimming World; recognises that slimming clubs around the UK are working effectively and consistently at the heart of local communities to help families adopt healthier eating and activity habits; notes that 30 million adults in the UK are either overweight or obese and that one million children are now obese; further notes that drug treatment and surgery are not effective in promoting the long-term behaviour change necessary to help individuals overcome their weight problems; further recognises that practical advice on changing the way people shop, cook and eat in a mutually supportive environment is an effective way to help those who are overweight or obese to lose weight for life; and congratulates the members of the Slimming World All Party Parliamentary Group which meets every Tuesday in Westminster Hall on their successful lifestyle changes and weight losses over the last year.
