That this House welcomes the £6 million of Scottish Government funding to create additional apprenticeship places; recognises that it will be used to fund 1,000 modern apprenticeships in Glasgow in 2009-10; notes that it follows the confirmation of a £16 million funding boost to encourage more new starts in modern apprenticeships; believes that it will ensure young people seeking training will not suffer due to the economic downturn; and further notes that it will enable Glasgow to meet the demand for the skilled workforce needed to support ongoing Commonwealth Games building works.
