That this House mourns the death of Dr Alison Des Forges, the leading expert on the 1994 Rwandan genocide and its aftermath, who was killed in the crash of Flight 3407 to Buffalo on 12 February 2009; recognises her unfaltering commitment to the people of the Great Lakes region of Africa and her major contribution to the promotion of human rights, in particular during almost two decades as senior adviser to Human Rights Watch's Africa division; expresses gratitude for her profound understanding of the region, which she shared with wit and generosity; notes her role as expert witness at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and her award-winning account of the Rwandan genocide; and further expresses its deepest condolences to her family, friends and colleagues.
