Single Level Testing
EDM number 799 in 2008-09, proposed by Lynne Featherstone on 12/02/2009.
Categorised under the topic of Schools.
That this House notes not only the practical debacle over SATS testing but also the negative effects on children; welcomes the scrapping of compulsory Key Stage 3 SATS tests; believes that the Government's proposals for single level testing will not solve the problem of over-testing; remains of the view that assessment is still necessary and important; further notes the recent petition on testing reform; and believes that there is a need to scale back further the cost and complexity of national testing, with more moderated teachers' assessment at age 11 years and more time for a richer and broader curriculum.
