Comments Of Professor David Nutt

EDM number 787 in 2008-09, proposed by Jim Dobbin on 11/02/2009.
Categorised under the topic of Drugs misuse.

That this House is dismayed at the view of Professor David Nutt, Chairman of the Home Office Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD), that ecstasy is less dangerous than horse-riding; agrees with the Home Secretary's comment that he has made light of a serious problem, trivialises the dangers of drugs, shows insensitivity to the families of victims of ecstasy and sends the wrong message to young people about the dangers of drugs; notes that Professor Nutt has made irresponsible comments advocating the use of Benzodiazepine tranquillisers contrary to Department of Health guidelines, and that the Department of Health and ACMD have disassociated themselves from these views; and calls upon Professor Nutt to consider his position as Chairman of the ACMD.

This motion has been signed by a total of 20 MPs.
