Sale Of Stonehaven Maritime Coastal Radio Station

EDM number 770 in 2008-09, proposed by Robert Smith on 11/02/2009.
Categorised under the topic of Cultural heritage.

That this House notes with concern that the Maritime Coastal Radio Station at Stonehaven, a listed building, has been allowed to fall into a state of decay and disrepair since its closure in 2000; recognises the historic significance of the station, especially its role in replaying news from the Sea Quest rig of the first discovery of oil in the North Sea; welcomes the efforts of the Stonehaven Radio Station Halls charity to purchase the site to save the buildings as a heritage site and provide a sustainable future based on a radio museum along with various community purposes; and calls on BT and Telereal to enter into negotiations with the group before putting the radio station on the open market, which may result in the buildings not being available for the benefit of Stonehaven and the local community.

This motion has been signed by a total of 15 MPs.
