Individual Registration For Postal Voting
EDM number 731 in 2008-09, proposed by Nigel Evans on 09/02/2009.
Categorised under the topic of Elections.
That this House supports the recommendations of Sir Christopher Kelly, Chairman of the Committee on Standards in Public Life, to introduce individual registration for postal voting; notes that individual registration, which already exists in Northern Ireland, requires voters to supply a signature, date of birth and national insurance number to be included on the roll; believes that the introduction of such a system would decrease the opportunities for people to manipulate the system for their own gains; and calls on the Government to create a clear timetable which will detail when individual registration will be implemented in England, Scotland and Wales.
