That this House applauds all those who won awards at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards on 8 February; particularly praises British winners and wishes to congratulate Kate Winslet for winning the Leading Actress award for The Reader, Danny Boyle for Director of Slumdog Millionaire, Simon Beaufoy for the Adapted Screenplay of Slumdog Millionaire, Anthony Dod Mantel for the Cinematography of Slumdog Millionaire, Chris Dickens for the Editing of Slumdog Millionaire, Glenn Freemantle, Richard Pryke, Tom Sayers and Ian Tapp for the Sound in Slumdog Millionaire, Noel Clarke for winning the Orange Rising Star Award, Steve Pegram, Nick Park and Bob Baker for Short Animation in Wallace and Gromit: A Matter of Loaf and Death, Michael O'Connor for Costume Design on The Duchess, Steve McQueen who won the Carl Foreman Award for Special Achievement by a British Director, Writer or Producer for their First Feature Film for Hunger, Martin McDonagh for Best Original Screenplay for In Bruges and all those involved in the production of Man on Wire which won the Outstanding British Film award; gives thanks to all other members of the casts and crews of these films for their contribution to a hugely successful night for British film; and calls on the Government to support the creativity and talent of the British film industry which ensures that the UK is recognised throughout the world for its artistic ability.
