Passenger Safety And Pedicabs

EDM number 557 in 2008-09, proposed by Lee Scott on 22/01/2009.
Categorised under the topic of Cycling.

That this House notes with concern the fatal accident that took place in Seattle, USA, on 6 August 2008 in which a 60 year old passenger in a pedicab tragically lost his life; further notes that the majority of pedicabs in the UK have the same design as those in the United States, and that there have been many reported accidents in this country though none has yet been fatal; draws attention to research undertaken by the Transport Research Laboratory which showed the serious risks to the safety of passengers travelling in pedicabs; and calls on the Government urgently to ensure that all pedicabs are removed from the streets before the UK experiences a tragic incident like the one in Seattle.

This motion has been signed by a total of 13 MPs.
