Dartford Crossing Toll Increase

EDM number 26 in 2008-09, proposed by Bob Spink on 03/12/2008.
Categorised under the topic of Roads.

That this House is concerned that the Government failed to keep the promise that the Dartford Crossing tolls would end when the crossing costs were met in full, which happened in 2003, and that continued failure to meet promises brings political parties into disrepute; notes the public outcry at the Government for recently increasing the toll by 50 per cent.; further notes that the free tolls and toll discounts for Thurrock and Dartford residents discriminate against other local residents, some of whom live nearer to the crossing; believes that this toll is simply another dishonest stealth tax and has nothing to do with traffic management, and that collecting the tolls causes delays, damage to the environment and increased charges to road users; and calls on the Government and Opposition parties to undertake to remove the tolls completely, immediately following the next election.
