EDM number 2100 in 2008-09, proposed by Tim Loughton on 20/10/2009.
Categorised under the topic of Health education and preventive medicine.
That this House congratulates Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) CRY/Philips on its first national screening tour, which has screened free of charge 2,462 fit and healthy young people in 12 locations in the UK over 10 weeks, diagnosing 14 as having potentially dangerous but treatable conditions; notes that the launch of the first initiative in the UK to screen every 14 year-old in the South East will help lay the foundation for the development of a national screening programme; further notes that the world's first specialist, multi-disciplinary centre dedicated to research into sudden cardiac death amongst those aged 35 and under is to be based at a leading London hospital; further notes that CRY is extending the development of its support network to young people diagnosed in locations in the Midlands and North as well as in the South of England; and further notes that following CRY's launch in the South East on 4 October 2009 Northern Ireland, the Midlands, the North East and the North West have launched the 12 young sudden deaths a week awareness programme, with research published in the European Society of Cardiology Journal substantiating this statistic.
