Newcastle Brown Ale

EDM number 2040 in 2008-09, proposed by David Clelland on 14/10/2009.
Categorised under the topic of Manufacturing industries.

That this House is gravely concerned at the news of the impending closure of the Scottish and Newcastle brewery in Gateshead with the loss of over 60 jobs and the resultant damage to the local economy; notes that this decision will mean that Newcastle Brown Ale will no longer be brewed on Tyneside; considers the resultant loss of credibility of the brand name to be detrimental to the future sales of the company's top-selling product and one of the country's major exports; and calls upon Scottish and Newcastle to reverse this decision in the interests of the employees, and local and national economy and the company itself.

This motion has been signed by a total of 32 MPs.
