New UK Public Holiday
EDM number 187 in 2008-09, proposed by Mike Hancock on 08/12/2008.
Categorised under the topic of Employment.
That this House welcomes the campaign to introduce a new UK public holiday; is aware that the UK has the lowest number of public holidays per year in the European Union, excepting Romania; believes that a well-thought-out new public holiday would bring people together for a national day of celebration and that a new public holiday would help improve the work-life balance of employees and improve productivity; recognises the work that Brewers Fayre has undertaken in starting a petition to call for a new public holiday to be introduced in the UK; believes that hard-working Britons deserve an extra day off each year; and calls on the Government to recognise increasing public demand for an extra day off by announcing the introduction of a new public holiday at the earliest opportunity.
This motion has been signed by a total of 24 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
