Domestic Sprinklers
EDM number 1844 in 2008-09, proposed by Janet Dean on 08/07/2009.
Categorised under the topic of Fire services.
That this House notes that domestic sprinklers are the equivalent of having a firefighter, ready and waiting, in every room of a home; further notes the wealth of evidence linking the use of domestic sprinklers to a reduction in serious fires in the home, saving lives and serious injuries as well as reducing the risk to firefighters tackling such incidents; congratulates Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service for raising awareness of the effectiveness of domestic sprinklers, including environmental benefits, showing that the widespread use of sprinklers could save up to 96 per cent. of the 5.6 billion litres of water used annually in the UK to fight large fires; commends Welsh Assembly Member Ann Jones for her efforts as lead member on this topic in Wales; and calls on the Government to review the current regulations to require all new homes in the future to be fitted with a domestic sprinkler system.
