Plastics 2020 Challenge

That this House notes the launch of the Plastics 2020 Challenge; congratulates the British Plastics Federation, the Packaging and Films Association and Plastics Europe on joining together to initiate a campaign to divert plastics from UK landfill by 2020, to reduce the climate change impact of plastics disposal and to address the UK's energy deficit; welcomes the commitment to double the rate of plastic packaging recycling by 2020; further notes that the UK plastics industry's exports are worth £4.6 billion a year and that the UK remains dominant in worldwide markets; and encourages the Government to work closely with the organisers of the Challenge to ensure that diversion of plastics from landfill can be achieved by 2020.
