East Timor

EDM number 1813 in 2008-09, proposed by Ann Clwyd on 03/07/2009.
Categorised under the topics of Asia and International development.

That this House welcomes the exhibition in Parliament this week, from 6 July 2009, highlighting the sufferings of the Timorese people under the illegal Indonesian occupation between 1975 and 1999; commends the UK Government for funding part of the truth and reconciliation process in East Timor, culminating in the release of the Chega! report in 2006; hopes that Parliament in East Timor will soon debate the report and establish a mechanism to facilitate the implementation of its recommendations; and calls on the UK Government to act on the recommendations addressed to it in the Chega! report, and to consider contributing financially to the establishment and the work of the mechanism agreed upon by the Parliament in East Timor.

This motion has been signed by a total of 41 MPs.
