That this House warmly welcomes the international sports conference organised by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in collaboration with the Sports Council for Wales on 9 and 10 December 2008 at the Welsh Institute of Sport in Cardiff, with the participation of Mr Taha Barwary, the KRG Minister of Sports and Youth to discuss how to develop enduring frameworks to encourage sporting activity and excellence in devolved regions; endorses the comment of KRG High Representative to the UK, Ms Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman that `sport can bring communities together and improve people's quality of life'; and further welcomes KRG's investment in new sports facilities and infrastructure across Iraqi Kurdistan and its aim of increasing public involvement in other sports popular in the region such as football, volleyball, table tennis, taikwondo, judo and karate as well as encouraging women's participation in sport.
