New Nuclear Power Stations In Scotland

EDM number 1303 in 2008-09, proposed by David Mundell on 21/04/2009.
Categorised under the topic of Nuclear power.

That this House regrets the omission of possible sites in Scotland from the Government's list of potential sites of future nuclear power stations published on 15 April 2009 because of the anti-nuclear policies of the SNP devolved administration in the Scottish Parliament; notes that Chapelcross, near Annan, is one of those sites so omitted despite the support of the workforce and the local community for a Chapelcross 2 power station; further regrets the adverse impact that the failure to consider new nuclear stations in Scotland will have, not just on the economy of Dumfriesshire, but on the whole of Scotland and the threat it brings to the nation's energy supplies in the medium term; welcomes the comments of the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change calling on the Scottish government to review its anti-nuclear stance; and encourages it to do so forthwith.
