York Means Business Campaign

EDM number 1219 in 2008-09, proposed by Hugh Bayley on 30/03/2009.
Categorised under the topic of Economic situation.

That this House welcomes the York Means Business campaign launched by The Press, York's daily paper, to support local business through the economic downturn and to help York residents find and retain secure employment; recognises that York has many assets which enable it to continue to attract inward investment and new jobs, including good road and rail links, its designation as a science city, two universities, a new £60 million further education college and excellent schools which provide a skilled labour force, its diversified economy with jobs in science, technology, financial services, manufacturing and services which, together with York's unparalleled history and built heritage make it one of the top retail and tourism destinations in the country; further welcomes the support given to the York Means Business campaign by business leaders, the Prime Minister and politicians from across the party spectrum; and regrets that the economic downturn affects every country in the world but believes that its impact in York will be reduced if York's businesses, leaders and citizens emphasise its strengths and, like The Press, express confidence in York's future.

This motion has been signed by a total of 15 MPs.
