Stem Cell Research

EDM number 1030 in 2008-09, proposed by Bob Spink on 10/03/2009.
Categorised under the topic of Medicine.

That this House welcomes the decision of President Obama to lift restrictions on stem cell research; notes the ability of certain stem cells to grow into any type of tissue in the body, and that this could transform medicine through treatments that replace and regenerate damaged or diseased tissue and organs; looks forward to greater collaboration between UK and US scientists and hopes for a boost to regenerative medicine research for the benefit of mankind; further notes the need to respect the dignity of human life and ensure that such research does not violate ethical principles; and opposes the intentional creation of human embryos for research purposes.
