BARNET COUNCIL'S BUDGET FOR 2009-10
EDM number 1024 in 2008-09, proposed by Andrew Dismore on 09/03/2009.
Categorised under the topic of Local government.
That this House condemns Conservative-controlled Barnet Council's proposed cuts in services to the vulnerable, including the end of residential wardens for elderly sheltered accommodation, the Welfare Rights Unit and Barnet Community Transport; further condemns its increases in `tomb tax' charges for the burial of children in the cheapest of graves; believes that these cuts cannot be justified in the light of the impact on elderly people's safety and social life, on those in need of advice on claiming benefits and on bereaved parents; and demands that Barnet Council's Conservative administration reassesses its proposed budget for 2009-10 to restore these cuts and charges.
