BBC Telephone Voting

EDM number 1014 in 2008-09, proposed by Bob Spink on 09/03/2009.
Categorised under the topic of Broadcasting.

That this House notes the BBC's continuing use of misleading statements when viewers are invited to ring on premium rate telephone lines; is concerned that viewers are told that calls may be charged after voting lines are closed when the fact is that such calls are always charged in full; further notes that the BBC received £106,000 over a two year period from calls made when voting lines were closed; believes that this could be viewed as deception; calls on the BBC to address the honesty of its warnings to viewers; and asks the Government further to protect viewers from shady telephony practices by all broadcasters.

This motion has been signed by a total of 18 MPs.
