That this House wholeheartedly welcomes the joint global World Glaucoma Day initiative of the World Glaucoma Association and the World Glaucoma Patient Association which takes place on 11 March 2009; supports the Royal National Institute of Blind People in its national campaign to raise awareness of glaucoma, including a parliamentary reception to mark World Glaucoma Day 2009; notes that in the UK some form of glaucoma affects hundreds of people in every constituency and that while four out of five people have heard of glaucoma, their understanding is limited, especially about the groups which are at higher risk; and calls on the Government to find new ways to raise awareness of the condition.
