Recognition Of The Black Country By Ordnance Survey And Others

EDM number 929 in 2007-08, proposed by Lynda Waltho on 18/02/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Industry, Local government and Tourism.

That this House notes the concern of the Black Country Chamber of Commerce, which includes the four chambers of the Black Country, Wolverhampton, Walsall, Sandwell and Dudley that the Black Country region is not indicated on Ordnance Survey maps; urges the Ordnance Survey to clearly represent the Black Country region on its maps by naming it; also urges the Ordnance Survey to rename Map 139, Birmingham and the Black Country; acknowledges that this would reinforce the Chamber's wider campaign to promote the region; further acknowledges that putting the Black Country on the map would indicate the importance of an area in which 1.2 million people live and which the industrial revolution defined and advanced; and further urges the House authorities to recognise the Black Country as a specific region in the output of the Official Report.

This motion has been signed by a total of 18 MPs, 2 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
