Havering-Atte-bower Village Bus Service

EDM number 915 in 2007-08, proposed by Andrew Rosindell on 07/02/2008.
Categorised under the topic of Buses.

That this House notes with disappointment that the bus service provided to the residents of the historic village of Havering-atte-Bower, located in the north of Romford, is served by only one bus per hour, Monday to Saturday, with no service at all on a Sunday; is concerned that the lack of a Sunday service altogether makes it very hard for relatives and friends wishing to travel to St Francis Hospice to visit their loved ones, as well as families hoping to vist the Bedfords Park Wildlife Visitor Centre, St John the Evangelist Church and the Havering Park Riding School; recognises that the 500 bus is also extremely unreliable and frequently late, which is very inconvenient for school children; further notes that there have been a number of incidents where elderly people have been unable to use their Freedom Pass due to drivers being unaware that Havering-atte-Bower falls within the Greater London area; and calls on the Mayor of London and Transport for London to conduct urgently a full and meaningful consultation with local residents with the aim of resolving these ongoing problems and to look at the possibility of re-routing the 499 bus service through the village every half hour, thus providing local residents with a regular and reliable bus service.
