South Asian Arts

EDM number 896 in 2007-08, proposed by Stephen Pound on 06/02/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Arts, Asia, Ethnic groups and Public expenditure.

That this House notes with deep concern the impact that the Arts Council cuts of £500,000 in respect of the Watermans Arts Centre and £170,000 in respect of Tara Arts will have on the increasingly popular and blossoming South Asian arts scene; fears that the Watermans may not now see a new Parminder Nagra or Tara Arts see another Natinder Verma; and calls on the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport to use his best endeavours to protect the South Asian arts that are such a vital component of UK artistic life.

This motion has been signed by a total of 18 MPs.
