Defence Training Review (No. 2)
EDM number 830 in 2007-08, proposed by John P Smith on 30/01/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Armed forces and Training.
That this House warmly welcomes the announcement by the Ministry of Defence to proceed with Package One of the Defence Training Review (DTR), which will modernise and transform the Phase 2 and Phase 3 training provision of the armed forces by providing state of the art teaching methods and technologies in aeronautical, mechanical and electrical engineering, communications and information systems for all three services on one site at MOD St Athan in the Vale of Glamorgan; believes this will build on the highly successful model of the Tri Service Officer Defence Academy at Shrivenham by providing young service men and women with the most advanced training in the world in a modern environment on a purpose built site, reaffirming the belief that all our service personnel, irrespective of rank, deserve the best training available; further believes this knowledge based investment has the potential to significantly transform the South Wales economy; and remains confident that St Athan will remain well placed to attract a substantial part of Package Two of the DTR covering logistics, personnel, policing, security, language, intelligence and photography training which will, as with Package One, deliver excellence and value for money for the taxpayer.
