Windsor Fire Station

EDM number 729 in 2007-08, proposed by Adam Afriyie on 17/01/2008.
Categorised under the topic of Fire services.

That this House notes with grave concern that the Royal Berkshire Fire Authority is choosing, through lack of current resources, to close Windsor Fire Station during the critical night period; praises the campaign to resist this closure by the Windsor Observer and Windsor Express newspapers, councillors, residents and others; further notes that over one million visitors come to Windsor each year to view the home of Her Majesty the Queen, Windsor Castle, the largest inhabited castle in the world, which has also suffered a major conflagration in 1992; recognises that 27,774 people will lose their local fire cover at night and will have to rely upon the services of Slough Fire Station, which being the busiest station within Berkshire, may be unavailable, thus creating a risk to public and firefighter safety within East Berkshire; and calls upon the Government to review how the existing fire authority budget might be distributed more fairly to ensure continued fire cover in the Windsor area.

This motion has been signed by a total of 12 MPs.
