Tinnitus
EDM number 665 in 2007-08, proposed by Alan Meale on 09/01/2008.
That this House is aware that in Britain today at least 2.3 million people suffer from the debilitating effects of tinnitus, a condition which can cause pain, stress, disturbed sleep patterns and behavioural changes to its sufferers; is further aware that the British Tinnitus Association and other charities based at The Ear Institute, UCL in London are currently providing funding for research into the condition, but believes that more needs to be done to increase the focus on the illness as a step towards ensuring it is given a greater priority within the NHS; and calls on the Government to provide extra research funding into tinnitus to at least the level commensurate with other European countries and to ensure that future GP contracts include performance measures of treatments given to its sufferers.
