That this House expresses its concern at the declaration of a state of emergency in Pakistan and the suspension of the constitution; recognises that Pakistan faces serious threats of extremism and terrorism; believes that the best way to tackle extremism and terrorism is through democracy; and calls on President Musharraf to lift the state of emergency and to restore the constitution, to lift the restrictions on press freedom, to release all political prisoners and to move towards democracy by holding free and fair elections by January 2008.
