That this House notes that 2008 is the United Nations Year of the Potato; believes that the humble tattie performs an important role in providing food security and alleviating poverty around the world; acknowledges the particular benefit to Europe of this aspect of the Columbian Exchange; and congratulates the Scottish Crop Research Institute and the City of Dundee for their initiative in hosting a major conference on global production and enhancing the international reputation of Scotland's scientific community.
