That this House acknowledges the contribution of the six million carers in the United Kingdom who provide unpaid help and support to a frail, ill or disabled relative, friend or partner; welcomes Carers' Rights Day, which is being held on 7th December 2007, and its focus on ensuring that carers are aware of, and apply for, the benefits and other support to which they are entitled; believes that it is essential that carers are identified and given information about their rights to benefits and an assessment of their needs; recognises that information is key to giving carers choices and control over their lives and the opportunity to manage their caring responsibilities while maintaining paid employment; welcomes initiatives to identify hidden carers and congratulates the 1,185 local groups holding events around the country, the largest number ever; and believes that all local authorities, health bodies, voluntary sector organisations, employers and hon. Members have a role to play in identifying and supporting carers.
