Funding Of West Yorkshire Fire And Rescue Authority

EDM number 379 in 2007-08, proposed by Greg Mulholland on 26/11/2007.
Categorised under the topics of Emergency services, Fire services and Local government.

That this House is concerned that proposed funding redistribution plans outlined in the Local Government Finance Formula Grant Distribution Consultation Paper could reduce the funding received by metropolitan fire and rescue authorities, such as the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority, which faces having its funding reduced by up to £1.3 million; recognises and commends the excellent and cost-effective service provided by the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority; believes that such funding reduction could have a significantly detrimental impact on those in West Yorkshire and could potentially leave them at greater risk from fire; and urges the Government to make no changes to the grant formula until a more fundamental review of existing funding arrangements is carried out which takes into account the specific challenges faced by metropolitan fire and rescue authorities such as West Yorkshire, and of existing good performance.
