Impact Of Cocaine

EDM number 2552 in 2007-08, proposed by John Mann on 24/11/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Crime, Drugs crimes and Drugs misuse.

That this House notes the warning of Francisco Santos Caldern, Vice President of Colombia, about the link between cocaine use in the UK and terrorism, organised crime and environmental destruction; believes that all young people should understand that as Vice President Caldern stated `if you snort a gram of cocaine, you are destroying four square metres of rainforest'; and calls on the Government to launch an education campaign integrated with schools' personal, social and health education highlighting the social impact of cocaine use, so that every potential user knows that the purchase of cocaine is not only illegal but is also responsible for environmental damage, funding terrorism, the trafficking of women and sustaining gangs on our streets who carry knives and guns.
