International Day For The Elimination Of Violence Against Women 2008

EDM number 2548 in 2007-08, proposed by Jeremy Corbyn on 20/11/2008.
Categorised under the topic of Crimes of violence.

That this House notes that 25th November 2008 is International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women; expresses concern that in the UK at least one in four women still experience domestic violence during their adult lives, at least two women are killed by their current or former partner each week and three quarters of these violent incidents are witnessed by children who as a result can suffer from anxiety and depression later in life; supports the efforts of all those who are working to prevent violence against women, especially recognising the efforts of men who are seeking to reverse the cycle of violence within their own home with the help of perpetrator programmes in the voluntary sector; and joins with the Everyman Project in welcoming this day in its efforts to raise awareness of the fact that violence against women is unacceptable.
