Pay Freeze At Trinity Mirror

EDM number 2544 in 2007-08, proposed by Austin Mitchell on 20/11/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Pay and Press.

That this House notes with concern the announcement of Trinity Mirror, the national and regional news publisher, of a freeze on staff pay over the next year; further notes that Trinity Mirror has already cut 1,200 jobs and closed 44 titles in the last year; believes that news provision, at national, regional and local level, is integral to the UK's communities and that journalists should be paid a fair wage for their work; further believes that pay freezes and cutbacks will undermine Trinity Mirror's capacity to provide high quality journalism; and therefore urges Trinity Mirror to re-consider this pay freeze and enter into meaningful negotiations with the NUJ, representing journalists working for the company, in order to resolve the problems the company is facing.
