That this House calls for the introduction of a mandatory risk assessment for blood clots of all hospitalised patients in line with the recommendations of the Chief Medical Officer in 2007; notes that blood clots kill an estimated 25,000 patients each year; calls on the Healthcare Commission to audit compliance with this best practice after it has been introduced in the annual hospital healthcheck in line with recommendations of the Chief Medical Officer's Expert Working Group and the Health Select Committee; further calls for the introduction of a specific hospital-acquired deep vein thrombosis (DVT) admission code to track patients with this potentially deadly condition; and calls on hon. and right hon. Members to support the campaign of the All-Party Parliamentary Thrombosis Group to prevent further avoidable deaths in our hospitals from DVT.
