Student Grant Funding
EDM number 2507 in 2007-08, proposed by Greg Mulholland on 17/11/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Higher education and Students.
That this House expresses concern that the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills is facing a £200 million shortfall in student grant funding after miscalculating the number of students eligible for full maintenance grants; expresses further and grave concern that in order to plug this shortfall the Government is reducing the threshold of family income below which a student is eligible for a grant, thus meaning that some students will now not qualify; further notes that this news coincides with a time of great economic hardship; and calls on the Government to take action to ensure that both current, and future students, do not miss out as a result of this shortfall.
