CLOSURE OF THE LEEDS TETLEY'S BREWERY
EDM number 2446 in 2007-08, proposed by Greg Mulholland on 06/11/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Cultural heritage and Employment.
That this House is dismayed by the announcement this week by Carlsberg Tetley that it intends to close the Leeds Tetley's Brewery with 170 staff facing an uncertain future; notes that Tetley's ales have been brewed in Leeds for 186 years and that it is an iconic Leeds brand; believes that if Tetley's is not brewed in Leeds, using Leeds water, it cannot claim to be a Leeds beer; and calls on the people of Leeds, Leeds City Council, the Yorkshire Evening Post and other local media to campaign against the closure and to persuade Carlsberg Tetley to continue brewing Tetley's ales in Leeds.
