EDM number 2334 in 2007-08, proposed by Kelvin Hopkins on 22/10/2008.

That this House congratulates ITV for staging a local referendum in Luton on the Lisbon Treaty and for the coverage given to the referendum on ITV's Tonight programme on 20th October; believes that the arguments for and against the Treaty were fairly and evenly represented and that the referendum, though limited in scale, was conducted in a fair and proper manner; notes that the votes returned showed 27 per cent. in favour of the Treaty with 63 per cent. against and 10 per cent. undecided; believes that this majority of more than two to one against the Treaty confirms earlier polling data showing that if the British people were given the opportunity to vote in a national referendum on the Treaty a No vote would be a probable result; and regrets that, unlike the Irish people, the British people have been refused a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty.
