Use Of Gamma-Butyrolactone

EDM number 2234 in 2007-08, proposed by Bob Spink on 14/10/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Drugs crimes and Sexual offences.

That this House is concerned about the growing use of gamma-butyrolactone, GBL, as a date rape drug; notes that the drug increases libido, euphoria, passivity and amnesia and renders the victim susceptible to non-consensual sexual activity, mugging and rape; further notes that this drug is supplied legally in the United Kingdom, often without checks or controls and frequently by post; acknowledges that the drug can be given to an unsuspecting person and that it is increasingly used as a date-rape drug, particularly in clubs where young girls are particularly at risk; and therefore calls on the Home Secretary to immediately ban the drug.

This motion has been signed by a total of 18 MPs.
