Deaths At Deepcut Barracks

EDM number 2211 in 2007-08, proposed by Lembit Opik on 08/10/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Armed forces, Armed forces welfare and Training.

That this House notes with extreme concern the recent death of Anthony Manuel Jose Hernandez at the Alexander Barracks; applauds the insightful journalism by the BBC reporter, Russell Sharp, at Catterick Garrison into reports of bullying by army instructors; deplores the use of bullying tactics as part of army training; calls on the Army to do more to prevent future abusive incidents from taking place; and further calls for a full public inquiry into the deaths at Deepcut Barracks of the four recruits, Cheryl James, Sean Benton, Geoff Gray and James Collinson between 1995 and 2002, in order to fully understand and challenge the events and environment that allowed so many young people to lose their lives.

This motion has been signed by a total of 22 MPs.
