Sharia Law

EDM number 2134 in 2007-08, proposed by Philip Davies on 22/07/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Administration of justice and Religion and faith communities.

That this House notes the views of the Centre for Islamic Pluralism that for non-Muslim authorities to propose the introduction of Sharia as a legal standard for Muslims in any non-Muslim land is not only absurdly patronising and discriminatory but also violates the canons of traditional Sharia law; calls on the Lord Chief Justice to accept that his comments have caused a considerable amount of damage to community cohesion in the UK and to the principle of integration; and further calls on the Government to confirm that Sharia law will have no place in the British legal system in any shape or form, in accordance with the wishes of the estimated two thirds of Muslims who oppose its introduction.

This motion has been signed by a total of 7 MPs.
